Weekly-ish Drop-in Classes, Series, Groups & Jams

Providence Haven (drop in performance / jam space): Mondays 4:30-6:30pm. A space for local musicians and performers to come together for creative freedom. There will be prepared acts as well as plenty of space for controlled chaos, from group songs to improv comedy. $6/person.
Contact Improv (classes & jams on alternate weeks): Mondays 7-9pm. Contact Improvisation (CI) invites the investigation of movement through physical contact with a partner. In CI, we practice non-verbal communication through touch that communicates weight and direction and through collective investigations of gravity and momentum. Rotating teaching/facilitating by Stephanie Turner, Jason Woofenden, Shura Baryshnikov, and Jeff Doff. Cost is $10. All bodies and levels of experience are welcome.
Mindfulness Meditation: Wednesdays at 5:30pm & Fridays at 12:15pm. (Check calendar for any schedule changes.) This gathering will include tea drinking, sitting/walking meditation practice, reading short passages, and connecting with others. All welcome. The hour-long group will be held by Jonah M. David, who facilitates in community spaces and the RI prison. He studied with the Engaged Mindfulness Institute, a trauma-informed teacher training. Suggested donation $5-$15 but participation is completely pay-what you can/want.

Yoga, Mindfulness & Inquiry: Thursdays at either 4:30 OR 6pm (check calendar for time) with Jenn Thomas. This class integrates yoga, mindfulness, and spiritual psychology while encouraging a strong awareness of the flow of breath and movement, as well as deep attention to the body and its individual alignments. Taught by Jenn Thomas who has practiced and studied yoga for over 20 years, the class ignites prana, balances yin and yang energies, and brings forth the stillness and joy within. Jenn’s way of weaving language and poetry into the fabric of each class draws us into the heart of who we truly are and the beauty of being alive – on and off the mat. By donation.
Community Restorative Yoga w/ Sound Bath: Select Fridays evenings (see calendar for dates & times) with the Glitter Goddess Collective. Come practice breathing, self-care, tension release, and strength in community with others. Class is offered by the Glitter Goddess Collective, with rotating Instructors: Matt Garza, Anthony Andrade, & Trent Lee. All people are welcome: all bodies, ages, skin colors, abilities, skill-levels, sexualities, faiths & beliefs, vocations & professions, parents & family members. Afri-Yoga Dance with Satta Jallah. STAY TUNED FOR NEW DAY/TIME. Experience the magic of rhythm, breath, and asana with AfriYoga Dance. This unique combination of Hatha Yoga and contemporary African movement, will leave you feeling energized with a deeper connection to your mind, body, and soul. Satta Jallah is a certified yoga instructor and doula. She is the founder of Holistic Roots Movement, where the mission is to empower women to reclaim their health through different holistic modalities such as yoga, dance, energy therapy, and natural beauty education.
Laughter Club: Sunday mornings at 4pm w/ Larry O’Brien and friends. Cultivate joy and wellbeing in the body, heart and mind with this simple, accessible and playful practice. Laugh for no reason (other than for the health of it). FREE, though donations to support the space are welcome and appreciated.

- Embody Freedom Practice (EFP) is an ongoing peer-based group exploring spontaneous movement, contact improvisation and vocal / sound improvisation integrated with conscious witnessing practice, creative forming (drawing, journaling, working with clay, etc.) as well as deep listening and reflection.
